This means that it could potentially save your life in a survival situation as you can use it to send an SOS signal using Morse code or even just catch a rescuers attention with the strobe setting. You can also use the torch to send Morse code messages by manually covering and exposing the beam accordingly. The strobe is turned on by quickly pressing the power button three times in succession. The night vision beams are very good for using inside of a tent at night as when they are dimmed, they fill the tent with a nice ambient glow.
You can then toggle between green, blue and red light by quickly pressing the power button twice in succession. You must then hold in the power button whilst the headtorch is off and this will turn on the night vision beam. To turn on the night vision beams, you need to first turn off the headtorch. The torch will let out a flash once it reaches both its dimmest and brightest settings so that it is easier to find the perfect brightness. The dimming setting can be adjusted to reach the perfect amount of light by holding down the button atop the headlamp.

This allows you to turn on the full 350 lumen setting simply by tapping the PowerTap symbol, and it can be turned back off simply by tapping it again. The full 350 lumen setting is very easy to toggle on and off as there is a touch sensor on the right side of the headlamp that uses Black Diamond’s ‘PowerTap’ technology. The multiple light settings may confuse users who are new to Black Diamond headtorches, but after a quick read of the included instructions, it doesn’t take long for the controls to become second nature. Ease of Use:Īlthough it may not exactly be intuitive straight out of the box, the Storm 350 is actually very user friendly once you get more familiar with it. The 2016 Storm 250 only had red and green light options in its night vision beam and did not have a blue light option.Įvery colour of light the Storm 350 can emit. This beam uses a Single Power LED and also includes both dimming and strobe settings, and the ability to toggle between red, blue and green light. The headlamp can also be tilted forward so that it faces downwards and not directly into people’s faces.Īs if that wasn’t enough, the Storm also has a night vision beam. So, Black Diamond have also included a dimming setting on the Storm, so that you don’t blind your friends with your new headtorch! This allows you to dim whichever beam you are using right down to 4 lumens. As well as dimming, both the middle and proximity beam have a strobe setting which can be used to gain attention or signal for help. When up close and personal with others, I found that even the proximity beam is just simply too bright. However, the only times I find myself using the full 350 lumens, is when I’m trail running or mountain biking in darkness, as the proximity beam is usually powerful enough when I’m not moving fast. When the proximity beam is used in conjunction with the middle beam, they put out 350 lumens, and under the right conditions, this can penetrate 85m into the darkness. Putting out 100 lumens, the proximity beam is powered by a Double Power LED and produces a wider beam of light that reaches up to 10m. Powered by a Quad Power LED, the Storm’s middle beam packs a powerful punch at 250 lumens, this allows it to penetrate up to 80m through the darkness on a clear night! The headtorch also has a proximity beam for when 250 lumens is just too powerful.
